Day One-Summer Vacation

It's Day One of summer vacation and someone is already bored with it, okay that someone happens to be me. Elena slept in til 8:00 AM (woo-hoo) and then woke up saying her ear was bothering her-another woo-hoo from me.

Then she wanted chocolate pudding (we had none), a Tastykake or any other junk food not normally eaten for breakfast. Alas, we had none of the above and waffles, cereal and toast was all turned down. She played a few computer games and now, at 10:34 AM, is picking through her toy room trying to find "something" to do. I, however, have cleaned both bathrooms, mopped floors and am generally a whirlwind with a cleaning rag. I figure if I keep busy, she'll follow suit.

The pool WILL be ready on Sunday-it has no choice, Father's Day or not, it must be ready and that's that. It's warming up quickly (of course, now that school is out) and it'll be about 90 with high humidity on Sunday. Mike is even coming home early today to work on the pool (okay, his early is like 5:30 PM, but it's something).

Crochet-wise, I finished the poncho Elena's teacher ordered, this one in black, in time to take to the school yesterday. It ended up being a rush job because, once someone orders something, I don't like doing it any longer. I also am working on something for someone who just had a baby-another rush job, but this I am kinda enjoying. I want to do the Garn Studio tank, the Interweave Crochet espadrilles, the SnB thread bag and about 5 other things for the summer-we shall see how that goes.

Yesterday, I received the bamboo purse handles and some wonderful millefiori beads I ordered from Jackie. I love, love, love her bamboo handles, they are very, very nice and a great price. The quality is superb, the ship time takes about 3 weeks, but so worth it-go look. The beads were great too, which means I have some beading ideas on hand, as well as some Sculpey clay stuff I want to do. However, I refuse to pull the latter two out until Elena is safely at her little summer camp thing in about 3 1/2 weeks.

I did make contact with Elena's best school friend's mom and, even with the differing schedules, the kids will get together once a week-which is great. I do like the little girl and her mom, which makes it soooo much easier. I also have plans with a friend of mine to go to their house swimming next week. She lives a bit far from us now and with gas prices, differing school schedules and the fact she has three kids, we don't see each other as much as we would like. She was in the area yesterday and stopped in, which was nice for all of us. The baby is now 9 months old and so darn cute-of course he was smiling and laughing the whole time, which is always cute. I miss having a baby around, but only that part-sometimes I wish I could have had another baby and other times, I am grateful for what I have. Some things just aren't meant to be.......

This morning my husband called me from work and asked me to make reservations for next Sunday for the brunch we love at Renault Winery. I asked why for next Sunday and he quietly reminded my romantically challenged self it was our wedding anniversary-10 years of wedded bliss. Okay, we're taking Elena to the brunch with us, but still nice he remembered, bad I forgot. After ten years, I think we are past the gift giving stage now-seriously, some may balk, but I don't need a thing and don't wear much of the beautiful jewelry I received from him in the 12ish years we've been together. My husband, who wants absolutely nothing and tells you outright, could care less about presents too. I'm always happy with some yarn of a gift cert for some, a cert for a massage, etc. but my husband doesn't think about that kind of gift ever, really. Although whenever we go on vacation, he always gets me a massage, facial, pampering type of surprise, which is nice.

I'm off to maybe start cleaning up Elena's playroom, do some laundry, hook a bit, who knows what else. It's taco night in Casa St. Amour, so that's easy enough (although I chop tons of toppings, make red beans and rice (of course after last weeks debacle, I should rethink that).
