Kathy Update

I called Kathy this afternoon and have some news to report.

Her son was critically injured in an ATV (all terrain vehicle) accident on Wednesday afternoon. He was driving at a high rate of speed and didn't have a helmet on and crashed into a tree. He has a brain injury and his knees are also broken, as are several facial bones. He is in a medically induced coma with hopes the brain swelling goes down. He is also on massive doses of IV pain medication. Kathy said the doctors feel his change of survival is 50/50.

Of course, if the brain swelling goes down, there is a chance of brain damage. He will also end up in a rehab hospital for some time for his legs and will need plastic surgery to reconstruct his face.

Kathy lives in North Carolina and her son is in New Jersey, so she was going to drive up here, but flew out of Charlotte instead. Once her son awakens and she gets some news, she will fly back to North Carolina, pack some belongings and head back here until he is in rehab.

Thankfully, Kathy's parents live only about 40 minutes from the trauma hospital he is in.

If anyone wishes to call her, email me at dsa0901 (at) and I will email you her phone number (at her mother's).

She's holding up well, considering she had a total hysterectomy three months ago and then received this shocking news.

Keep her in your thoughts.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Deneen. I won't call her because I am sure she has enough to deal with. However, if you talk to her again, please let her know that we are praying for her and let me know if there is something we can do from here. Thanks again.
