Elena and the Amazing Swiffer

Yup, two posts in one day, but this was so fresh on my mind, had to post it. Sharon-Crochet Queen is the moderator of a "Freebie" section on DoD. She posts current offers, etc. Anyway, I wanted to try the Swiffer Duster and ordered a free sample. It came in the mail and Elena saw it and was in awe-"Oh, is that the Swiffer Duster? It gets in places regular dusters just can't" she cooed. Anyway, I put it together and off she went to go to places where no duster has gone before, as well as flat surfaces (again, really, where no duster had gone before). She loved it-who would have thought that?

Anyway, the thing was dusty as hell and looked like shit after two days of Elena dusting, so I bought more refills, which came with another handle. Well, she was thrilled to have her very own duster!

Yesterday, I dusted and cleaned all the ceiling fans (four of em) and stripped the beds, did the linens and comforters, etc. A small clean up. I put on a fresh Swiffer last night and put it away. Well, Elena woke up this AM and wanted to clean cause I was cleaning the bathroom floor, dining room floor, etc. She specifically asked for "her Swiffer". She has been dusting for 45 minutes-nothing is safe from the duster that does more than just wood (Elena's words).

Where did she get this clean up gene? My mother. You could eat off of her floors (not that you would, but you could). By 7:00 AM, all newspapers are recycled, all coffee cups wash, pot cleaned, looks like no one lives there and that's how she likes it. I, however, sick of being held under the thumb of cleaning while growing up, refuse to give in to the neatly arranged shoes in the bottom of a closet, bathroom cabinets that don't cause an avalanche when you want one item, etc. I cannot deal with that stuff because "IT'S NOT IMPORTANT TO ME" and "WHEN I'M DEAD, WILL IT HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE?" a resounding NO is the answer (except for those who have to clean out my estate, but then again, it's not my problem). Anyway, Elena is very "throw and go" cause she sees me like that, but my mother pumps into her head how "your mom doesn't like to do that stuff cause she's lazy (yes, she told my daughter that more than once and I heard her one time and got freaky on her ass for it) or "she would rather crochet or do some craft thing"-hell yes, I would-who wouldn't??? One day, while Elena and I were making a mess fingerpainting she asked me if I ever did that when I was a kid. I answered her with all the honestly and straightforwardness I could muster "No, Elena, cause it made a mess". She was shocked, etc. Then she said "Oh yeah, Grammy hates messes doesn't she?". Well we all hate messes, but cleanliness and outward appearances are more important to her than having fun or making memories. Elena got it, but I know she has more of my mom's genetics in her than I care to admit, but hell, somebody has to dust.

Those stupid refills... why call it a refill when there's a new damned handle in every stupid box? I don't know how many of those handles we've thrown away, cuz you know, we just don't need 14,000 of the things lol.

Hubby is the same way as Elena though, he adores those things, he's always dusting shit. Which is cool lol less for me to have to do.

Just don't let her know about canned air... that's hubby's other compulsive thing, spraying air... in the computers, the back of the TV, the DVD players, anything he can think of lol.

My swiffer came the other day--I need to try it out. My house is so dusty, and I avoid dusting like the plague because it just gets all up in the air no matter what I use to dust with. I'm hoping this'll maybe trap stuff so I can do a massive dusting and get it under control without being forced out of the house by allergies.

Hey! Does Elena want to come and visit Europe? Should I decide to get rid of my friends, I might need a professional swifter users help!
