The Shots-The Aftermath

If it sounds like a saga, it's because it was one. Elena was a bit anxious about an hour before we left and I was a lot anxious. I left with plenty of time and my anxious daughter was hoping the rash she had would prevent the shots. Well, Wendy, you were so right. She has Fifth Disease and it's on it's wind down now. Rash is lacy like and itchiness seems to be gone. I don't know if I ever had it and, with the autoimmune drugs and problems I have, hope I don't get it. It's too late now cause the incubation period is 4-14 days and then the rash.

She got all 3 shots and shrieked throughout. She screamed at the nurse before the last shot "To get away from her and never touch her again". I felt so badly I thought I was going to vomit right there. The poor kids in the waiting room freaked out too! But, she did hug the nurse and told her she understood why she needed them. She also received ten stickers, a "stick" and something else from the receptionist. We stopped for a Happy meal on the way home and all is well, although the one stick bled like hell and she's freaked about it. It's kinda swollen too. I'll probably put ice on it later if it bothers her. The doctor told her she wouldn't have to get shots again until she was 11 years old. She is so happy about that. She's also in the 90th percentile for height, which means she's taller than 90% of girls the same age as her. I'm only 5'3" and my husband is 5'10", so go figure. I do have some tall women on my mother's side though.

Anyway, we survived-it's done-thank goodness!

We have to take the boy in... I've been postponing because well... he fights tooth and nail... he's a tstrong little guy and they yell at me to hold him and half the time with my muscle trouble it just doesn't work well for anyone.
And I HATE the women at this hd, they so are b------

Just be thankful it's over until hopefully she's old enough to be ok.

What's fifth disease?

Poor Elena - I totally relate - I F**KING hate shots. Seriously. I deal with them like she does - hysterically.

Hope your evening goes better!

Tell Elana she should be honored she has fifth disease now, my stepdaughter swore it was called that because 'you get it when you're in fifth grade' just because she was when she had it. It's called that because it was the fifth rash producing virus identified apparently.

Sounds like she will be tall. Somewhere online is a height calculator. You put in known facts about your child, age, height, weight and it spits out how tall they will be at age 18. I did this for Sierra and it said she would be 5'10". She is also tall for her age (43 inches at age 4.)

I hope she is feeling better. I think you will love her in school. It will give you needed time to pamper yourself and hopefully wear out some of that flapping energy. Sierra starts preschool next week and I can't wait!
