Monday Morning

Not a great weekend, not bad, not great. Dinner at my mother's last night. Must have been the first time we've all had dinner there is two years. My great aunt and uncle came up from Virginia for a few days. We hadn't seen them in four years, Elena was only 1 then. It was fine, Elena had a good time.

We came home and Elena begged to go swimming. First "night swimming". I kept telling Mike the bugs were ungodly, but Elena was excited, etc. I put her suit on her and she was running through the house and I heart a "thump". I knew she fell, but didn't hear anything else and usually if she hurts herself she'll call me. She's always falling down, tripping, kids stuff and she gets up and moves on. About 3 minutes later I walked into the living room and she's sitting on the couch, foot propped up on a pillow, blood on her foot and face and scrunched up and red from holding in tears. As soon as she saw me, she burst into tears. Apparently, she tripped over the thingy in the foyey that holds the carpet down. It's not sticking up, but her toe hit it just right and split it open. I was freaking out inside, but had to stay cool because Elena was freaking out in general. It was a pretty deep wound and bleeding a lot. I was cleaning it with peroxide and she screamed it hurt and wet herself, which made her cry harder. It looked painful as hell and I wrapped it in Band-Aids and pray and hope it looks better this AM. I hope it doesn't need stitches. She still went "night swimming", the bugs were ungodly and it lasted about 5 minutes......

I finished the Ella Bolero. I did it in RHSS Blueberry Pie and hate the yarn. Not being a snob, it's just icky feeling and I don't care for the colors. Donna did it in a mohair blend, which was so much nicer. I did promise to test the pattern and, for some unknown reason, could not get my groove making this. No reason, it was an easy pattern, etc., just couldn't find the right yarn for it, etc. Finally I settled on RHSS cause I had it and wasn't crazy about it and figured it was just the tester pattern. To see the "real" Ella, go to Donna's blog. I plan to start her Bianca pattern shortly.

I have been crocheting kerchiefs and hairbands for Elena, at her request. She saw some of the older kids at Michael's camp had them and has, for the first time, begged me to make her some. Usually, she doesn't want to wear what I make because "people ask her questions about where she got it, etc." and she gets embarassed. So this is a huge step. I'll post some pics once I do a few more.

Not much else, Aunt Flo came yesterday, at breakfast in the diner. I hate that. I felt crappy all day from it and my feet still hurt. I actually took a Vicodin yesterday, but I think part of it was to help take the edge off my dinner plans too (I know, I know, shouldn't do that)

Anyway, off to another day..............

Ahhhh Vicodin. No judgement here, that's the only thing that gets rid of my period migraines.

And poor Elena! My god, ouch! I cringe just thinking of it!

I like the bolero, but I understand the yarn thing. If you aren't happy then it doesn't matter how amazingly well the project came out!

Poor kiddo! I hope her toe is feeling better this morning. If it's too deep to stay closed on its own but not deep enough to need stitches those butterfly bandaids are great.

I have been known to take a vicodin the first day of my period. Yeah, yeah, that's not what they were prescribed for, but it's the only way I get through that first day. Especially in the summer when using a heat pack is pretty much out of the question...

I hope Elena's little piggy is feeling better today. I know what you mean about Red Heart Super Saver...I haven't used that stuff in a while...I will admit it, I AM a yarn snob, and Super Saver just doesn't cut it anymore.

I think Ella looks pretty cool in that yarn actually! I'm sure it just felt less than good because of warm weather and humidity.
Awww. I hope Elena doesn't need stitches on her toe.

I hope your daughter's toe is getting better! That sounds like a bad trip. (no pun intended) Hopefully no stitches are needed! Hope she enjoyed the night swimming!

HI Deneen!! Hope you're feeling a bit better!

If there's any doubt on Elena's foot needing stitches, have it looked at- sometimes they won't do it after 24 hrs or so and if they do it's more complicated.

Poor kid! Hope she gets better soon!

I've been thinking of Elena and hoping she's feeling better from her fall. Those kind of accidents can really hurt, but they tend to heal quickly if it isn't too bad.

Hey, I totally understand about the use of Vicodin to smooth and ease social situations! Especially when it's Aunt Flo time! I don't think it's a misuse at all, in fact I joke that that kind of stuff should be OTC so that women can relax. A Calgon bath just doesn't work as well.
