Funny story....

Lately, Elena has been on a "Wizard of Oz" kick. She begged me to get the movie at the library. I was hesitant, the damn monkeys scared the hell out of me as a kid and Margaret Hamilton did too! I still remember her from those damn coffee commercials and it really made me not want to ever try coffee.

Anyway, she begged, I gave in. She adores it-absolutely, positively loves it. I bought a new copy off of eBay for $4.00. She has watched it numerous times and loves acting it out.

Now, the set up is done, now to the story.

I have a yoga mat rolled in the corner of the dining room. I bought it right after I had Elena (5 1/2 years ago) with the intention of learning yoga. Didn't happen. Elena uses it once in a while to play on. I guess she like the "sticky" feel to it. Anyway, she took it out tonight and was stretching on it. She asked me to teach her yoga. I told her I didn't know yoga. She said I must know yoga cause I own a mat. I explained I didn't know it and planned to learn but never did. She then asked "Are you sure you didn't know it from the old days". I looked at her and asked "What are the "old days"". She answered, "Before there was color in the world!". Well obviously, since I explained it was an old movie, she thinks the world was brown and white (it's not black and white in this version) for everyone in the old days. Apparently, she feels Dorothy only dreams in color, there is no color in her real life. It was an interesting observation (to me anyway). I swear her mind never stops.

Other stuff, I finally called my pal Linda and she's coming over tomorrow with her two girls for a playdate/mommy catch up date. Apparently her girls have been bugging her as much as my daughter has to get together. I feel like a heel cause she's 6 1/2 months pregnant and I haven't seen her since before she was "with child". BTW, Elena is shocked Aunt Linda is pregnant and wants to know exactly how it happened and how they know if it's a boy or a girl while it's in her stomach. She feels the whole thing is totally "gross" and downright awful. She says there's no way she's even gonna look at Aunt Linda's tummy, in case the baby sees her. She's twice as mad it's a boy! I don't get it----

I used to think the same way! I'd see photographs of my grandparents and parents and wonder when the world came into color. Then I watched the Wizard of Oz and that really messed with my head. I love the movie but those monkeys still scare the fire out of me!

Do you remember when it used to be on every year right around Easter? When I was in high school I was in a production of the show and our director said "O.k., it's just like on t.v.!" and then he was signing the lyrics to "Off To See The Wizard" and goes "Because, because, because, because, becaaaaaaaaause....because of the wonderful things he does! Da, da, da, da (etc)....commerical!"

It kills me to this day because it was always like that! They'd skip away and a commercial would air.

O.k. I'm done taking up tons of space in your comments now. :)

the old days were not in color? no wonder everyday seems so strange. my questions is, when did we start seeing color? Funny and smart girl you have there. . . How cute about the baby boy. . . I'm sure she'll love it when it gets here and she'll be facinated with the belly. . . maybe.

Always nice when you stop
