Craft Camp Over

Today was Elena's last day of Michaels Craft Camp. She is sad, I am kinda glad. They are running it next week, but I just don't have it in me. Besides the driving back and forth daily, there's the time killing. Originally, I was going to sit in Borders, have a coffee and crochet. Well, what was I thinking? First of all, it wasn't held the full two hours any day but Thursday and Thursday lasted 2 1/2 hours.

I spent money is what I did. I went to Target, Old Navy, spent at Michaels (no yarn though), drove to AC Moore one day and today drove to my teensy Joann. Joann had a bin of Boucle on sale today for $3.00 a skein, nope didn't get any. I bought beads for book thongs, jewelry findings for stitch markers, a bunch of crap I needed and didn't need. The craft camp cost my poor husband about $100 extra bucks in crapola! Besides that, I was bored. It's so hot and humid I couldn't sit in the car, there were no benches or seats nearby, etc. I also treated myself to a $3.00 Starbucks Latte today-living high babyyyyyy~

Enough of my whining, Elena loved every minute of it-I will try to post the pics once this post is done. Unfortunately, Blogger has been giving me a hard time today.

On the crochet front, I am working on the shell stitch wrist bag pattern from C'ville. I originally did this and put bamboo handles on it, but I didn't like the feel of the handles, so I frogged em off and will just do it as a wrist bag. The pattern called for crochet nylon cord, but all that AC Moore had was white, ick. Anyway, I am using Sugar N Cream Summer Splash combined with Hot Blue and it's got a beautiful colorway. Once I'm done, I'll post pics. At the same time, with the same yarn, I am working on a dishcloth (yes peeps, two things at once). It uses the same size hook, etc. and I just keep going from one to the other.

I tried Cordelia's Barefoot sandals pattern. I stink at thread. First of all, I don't own and couldn't find a #6 Boye steel, so I used a 5. I just can't see the thread right. I need to start with bigger thread, but don't know how the sandals will turn out using bigger hook, thicker thread. I just can't get the feel for the hooks either. I will make some handles with model magic once I get done the gazillion other things I want to do. I must work on stitch markers and book thongs, I just hate to pull the beads out when Elena is around because she wants to "help" and I always get a headache by the end.

Well, I will post the pics of Elena. She made a Textured Picture Frame, Model Magic Bugs, a handpainted bead and hemp keychain, a handpainted fish windsock (2 1/2 hours and the teacher looked like she was going to shoot herself at the end) and something called a "Fishing Lodge Mobile" using the ever present Fun Fur!

So without further ado,

Doing crafts with kids is FUN! (I'm sure that's what they told the teacher they hired for this camp.. I'm also sure she probably will need a week off when it's all done!)

Your Elena is cute, and she did a great job on her projects!

I do crafts with my neices and nephew all the time and our tradition is making Christmas gifts (I made a crafts closet and they have their own bins with scissors, glue stick, etc.) Great ideas.

Her stuff came out great! I especially like that picture frame.

Sounds like it must've been great fun for her, though it does sound like it was exhausting for you... Definitely a world of difference from the potholders made from those loopy things that I used to spend my summers making :)
